Why Frederick Douglass

A Force for Uniting the United States

Frederick Douglass, born into slavery in 1818, became a leading advocate for uniting our nation after the Civil War. His conviction in our founding values and principles helped guide the Republican party to win a second term under Abraham Lincoln’s leadership. Lincoln faced the challenge of rescuing a divided nation.

Frederick Douglass played a crucial role in the birth of the Republican Party

The Republican Party was founded in 1854 by abolitionists who aimed to end slavery and advocate for the civil rights of Black people, with Frederick Douglass playing a significant role in initiating the political campaign.

Believed in American Principles

Lincoln embraced Douglass’s message of preserving our nation’s values, and it became a roadmap for reunification. Today, Douglass’s contribution offers the most effective messaging for winning new hearts and minds.

A Symbol of Republican Values

Republicans can use Frederick Douglass as a symbol to unite the voters and realize the greatness of our country, just like Lincoln did.
